Year 9 Explore the Power of Film Music

This term, our Year 9 students have delved into the fascinating world of film music — discovering how sound shapes emotion, tension, and storytelling on screen. From the silent films of the 1910s to today’s Hollywood blockbusters, they explored key concepts such as leitmotif, diegetic and non-diegetic music, and how composers use these techniques to manipulate audience emotion and enhance visual drama.

As a culminating project, students composed and synchronised their own original soundtracks to a trailer from The Woman in Black, showcasing their creativity and understanding of cinematic scoring.
