Winter Greetings from Kindergarten
KG Polar Display

In Kindergarten we are busy investigating Patterns in Nature: winter, snow, day and night. We made some nice polar bears, which are up on our display in the corridor. When talking about the sounds that polar bears make, we looked further into the sounds that other arctic animals make. We watched several videos and even one where the children had to guess the sounds. Naturally, we read plenty of books, such as Winter, Night Time and Our Snowman and of course, we have been singing a lot winter songs. Some of our favourites are Let’s Rock to Get Ready for Winter, Wintertime is Here and Paw Paw Polar Bear.

We have also played with artificial snow (shaving cream and very soapy water), which is a great sensory activity. The children love the feel of the “snow”. They also have made drawings and written their name in shaving foam on the table. This is a good activity for developing their eye-hand coordination.

Our Kindergarten children never get enough of play dough and this time it is black play dough with some silver glitter that resembles stars. Playing with play dough strengthens the muscles in their hands, which is necessary for being able to write later on.

Next week we will have a Pyjama Party and all children will come to school in their pyjamas. Together we will have breakfast in class with toast, fruit, yoghurt, chocolate milk etcetera. That surely will be a lot of fun!
