The Power of Inquiry in Elementary School

It was a pleasure to see the excitement students’ faces when they first saw the new climbing frame. As teachers we had been out to try it out before the students came back, but most of us struggled to even get on it.

We couldn’t believe it on the first day when we saw students hanging from every corner of it, and not only that, but using it in such a responsible way.

Our students showed so many of our Learner profile attributes- they were risk takers for trying something new and seemingly a little dangerous, they were thinkers as they figured out the best way to get on and off and inquirers as they put their ideas to the test. They were principled as they thought how to share the apparatus with their friends and they were caring as they made sure no one got hurt.

These are the qualities we help our students to develop everyday through engaging learning experiences and collaborative inquiries, to help create a safe, exciting and stimulating learning community.

It promises to be a great year!
