Congratulations to our students for the entries prepared as part of the Globedcuate Arts Competition. Results will come out on 13 December to know which artwork was selected to go forward for the online Globeducate exhibition. This year, students were invited to dive deep into the theme of “Marine”, exploring the wonders of the ocean through various artistic mediums.
Enjoy viewing the works below.
Gabby M’s entry demonstrates a dreamlike quality of a starry night over a coast. Her work is strongly influenced by Van Gogh's Starry Night, for both the subject and rhythmic use of lines rendered with felt tip pens in this A4 size drawing.
Maya B’s entry is a drawing which successfully uses the SCL method of drawing (double curve, single curve, angle) where you consciously draw with lines no longer than a double curve and you think about the flow and rhythm of the lines used to create the drawing. This has created a beautiful design of a Sea Siren.
Tommaso F’s entry also uses the SCL method, additionally he had the challenge of arranging the imagery to create areas of focus. The seagull in the foreground to convey freedom. The fin of a whale and a passing ship, the sun setting over the hills lead the eye into the distance. This work uses scale successfully to give a sense of depth.
Cristina C’s entry is wonderfully imaginative and the deliberately small elements across the composition make you search for the next amusing idea. A work made to inform people about a serious problem, that of the pollution of our oceans, but in a humorous way.
Taisiya H’s entry has a great balance between the use of imagery and the use of materials and techniques to convey meaning. Thick impasto layers, glossy glazed layers contrast with the linear use of marker pens. The arrangement of the different size fish circling the central figure convey the title's idea ' Downing In Your Thoughts'.
