RIS Italian Department Faculty Participate in International Symposium on Postwar Rome
On 28 November 2024, it was a pleasure and honour for RIS Rome's Head of School, Ms Corina Rider, to deliver the opening remarks alongside Rome's Vice Mayor at the recent conference “Il tempo de ‘L’Orologio’ - Rome and the World (1944-50)”, hosted by the Metropolitan City of Rome and the Ministry of Culture at the Villa Altieri Conference Hall. This remarkable event marked the first-ever partnership between Fondazione Carlo Levi and a school—an honour for which we are deeply grateful.

Organised by the Carlo Levi Foundation in collaboration with Roma Tre University and Rome International School, this event brought together renowned historians, cultural scholars, and critics to explore Rome’s transformative years from 1944 to 1950.
Prof. Marucci and Dr. Scoppola from our Italian Department were featured as expert panelists, bringing profound insight and meaning to the discussions. Their contributions reflected the very best of our academic excellence.
A heartfelt thank you to our Year 12 and 13 students and prefects for their professionalism and inspiring involvement. Their dedication and enthusiasm demonstrated our Vision in action: "A Global Community of Change-makers: Shaping a future where diversity, empathy, and sustainability thrive."
We would also like to extend a special thanks to Ms. Lavinia C., Year 13 student, for her outstanding support as my translator during the opening speech. Her assistance ensured our school’s message resonated across the audience with clarity and impact.
The text, L'Orologio, is studied as part of the IB Diploma Italian course, taught in years 12 and 13. As part of this curriculum, the Year 12 and Year 13 IB Diploma students, including CAS participants and student leaders, gained valuable insights from leading experts and engage in activities designed to enrich both their personal growth and academic journey.
The event was a celebration of cultural connection, intellectual growth, and collaboration. It is exciting to see RIS laying the foundation for future partnerships with the Ministry of Culture and the Fondazione Carlo Levi, opening doors to even more enriching opportunities for our students.
