RIS Italian Department Faculty to Participate in International Symposium on Postwar Rome

On 28 and 29 November 2024, two Italian Department faculty members from RIS Rome International School joined the International Symposium inspired by Carlo Levi's text ‘L’Orologio’ - Rome and the World (1944-50)” at the Villa Altieri Conference Hall.

Organised by the Carlo Levi Foundation in collaboration with Roma Tre University and Rome International School, this event brought together renowned historians, cultural scholars, and critics to explore Rome’s transformative years from 1944 to 1950.

Italian Department and IB Students

 

The text, L'Orologio, is studied as part of the IB Diploma Italian course, taught in years 12 and 13. As part of this curriculum, RIS Rome's IB Diploma students, including CAS participants and student leaders, will have the unique opportunity to attend the event. They will gain valuable insights from leading experts and engage in activities designed to enrich both their personal growth and academic journey. 

Rome International School faculty highlights:

  • Prof. Alessandro Marucci, who is also on the symposium’s scientific committee, will lead a session on “Post-Liberation Rome,” addressing cultural and societal shifts in the immediate postwar period.
  • Dr. Luigi Scoppola, will present on Carlo Levi’s early journalistic contributions and the political complexities Levi observed in postwar Italy.
  • Ms Corina Rader, Head of School at RIS will join Rome's Vice Mayor and other esteemed authorities to deliver opening remarks on 28 November. 

This event underscores the vital role of Rome International School’s faculty in advancing studies on Italian history and culture, as well as their active contributions to contemporary historical discourse.
