RIS community unites for biggest charity event of the year
On Saturday 18th June, students, parents and staff came together for the Summer Fair. Organised by the Parent-Teacher Association, this event is traditionally one of the biggest community events in the school year and it was an absolute delight to be able to hold this event on campus after a two-year hiatus owing to COVID restrictions.
Our team of Prefects were integral to the planning and organisation of the event. They opened the Fair with a special Fashion Show which saw students parade in a dazzling variety of national costumes. Guests were also able to go on a culinary tour via the international food stalls which offered sweet and savoury dishes from all over the world!
To complete the sensory experience, some of our Year 12 rock-stars put on a superb performance outdoors while Elementary and Middle School students did a wonderful job with piano and violin concerts in the Auditorium. Special mention goes to the students and parents who gave an outstanding performance of a traditional Malaysian dance. The musical festival continued outdoors with a lounge set by DJ Dario as well as Cuban musicians, who turned up the heat with their electrifying live performance.
The Summer Fair was the culmination in the PTA's efforts to fundraise for the two charity projects in Kenya and Ukraine. Thank you to all of those who came to the Fair and who were involved, either as volunteers, sponsors and partners (see video further below), or to those who simply came to enjoy a day with their family and friends.
It is thanks to the wonderful community spirit that the PTA managed to achieve a final fundraising total of €10,000, which will be split evenly across the two charity projects.
What a satisfying end to the school year - Thank You RIS Community!
About the PTA's Fundraising Projects in 2021/22:
Terre des Hommes has been working in Ukraine since 2015 to support the most vulnerable children and immediately took action to guarantee assistance, hygiene kits, protection and psychological and psychosocial support for mothers and children.
Our school, like all members of Globeducate, promotes values of peace and friendship.
The RIS PTA together with Globecuate schools in Italy, will support Terre Des Hommes Italia in raising funds to support children affected by the conflict in Ukraine. Fundraising will provide basic necessities, medical supplies and shelter for children in difficulty.
Education for All
Since the 2015/16 academic year, Rome International School's Parent-Teacher Association has been supporting the community project, ‘Sharing our vision: Education for all’.
