Nursery Get Busy Messing About
Much of our work and play in the Nursery class can result in us making a big mess, in the best possible way! Often learning engagements are designed to provide much sensory stimulation, allowing students to explore as freely and independently as possible in their own time.
Activities may well facilitate developing motor skills, hand eye coordination, strengthen small muscles in hands, fingers and wrists as well as creativity, thinking and problem-solving skills and much more. All very important for the children’s academic development later in life.

Equally as importantly in a young learner’s life, is having fun and experiencing a sense of wonder when trying something new. An added advantage to our messy working can be beautiful craft work or tasty cooking projects which the children share with their families and during our weekly picnic outdoors.
If you still have some Panettone left, you may like to have a go at making our delicious truffles and enjoy getting your hands sticky as you mix and roll the little bite size treats.
Another favourite is rubbing flour and butter between our fingertips to make crumble topping to sprinkle over many different fruit fillings. Recently we made apple and blueberry crumble, very tasty.
In December, for the Winter Fair we created our own salt dough ornaments starting from scratch. Much fun was had mixing up the flour, water and salt with hands and then great exercise kneading, patting and rolling out ready for using the pastry cutters.
