Celebrating Artistic Talent: Globeducate Arts Competition Success
We are delighted to announce that Isabella in Year 9 has been awarded an Honorary Mention in the Middle School Painting category of this year’s Globeducate Arts Competition.
Isabella’s work was recognised among a global field of entries for its resonance with this year's theme: "A Universal Voice", which encouraged ideas of communication, empathy, connection, global citizenship through disciplines such as painting, poetry, photography, performing arts, 3D art, drawing and sculpture.
I decided to enter this competition because I wanted to push myself to create something outside of my usual comfort zone, and challenge myself with this big art project. The theme was a bit challenging at first because it required a lot of abstract thinking, and I had to think and figure out how to turn this big idea into a visual image. Through this process, I really focused on my technique in shading and I feel like I have improved in using watercolours, especially with layering and blending the colours. I also discovered that I am more patient than I thought, especially when a piece of work isn't coming together the way I want it right away. I also learned that art is a great way for me to express and process my thoughts. I would definitely like to continue studying art in High School next year to keep building my skills!

About the Artwork
Isabella’s piece, titled "The Interior Window", explores the profound connection between our external circumstances and our internal world. In her artist statement, Isabella describes the work as a focus on the "inner life" of a figure who feels "stuck" or "limited" in her reality.
- Symbolism: The painting uses bright colors, music, and "flying animals" to represent the freedom and experiences the figure wishes to have.
- The Message: Isabella notes that the core of the piece is the contrast between being trapped in a situation and being "totally free in your imagination".
- A Universal Perspective: As Isabella beautifully writes, "Her dreams are the only thing that can escape the lock".

By focusing on the universal concept of being "stuck" versus "free to dream," Isabella has given a powerful voice to a shared human experience.
Congratulations to Isabella on this incredible achievement! We are immensely proud to see her represent RIS Rome so thoughtfully on the global stage.
The Globeducate Arts Competition is held annually across the group’s network of schools. Participation in the competition reflects RIS Rome’s commitment to developing creativity, critical thinking and global awareness. Being part of the Globeducate family enables students to take part in shared international initiatives that extend learning beyond the classroom and connect them with a wider world.
