Exhibition: 'Rescuing our past to build our future'
From 9 March to 30 April 2017, Rome International School hosted an exclusive archaeological exhibition 'Rescuing our past to build our future', in collaboration with the Ministry of Cultural Heritage and Activities and Tourism (MiBACT) and the Comando Carabinieri Tutela Patrimonio Culturale.
On display at Rome International School were 75 rare archaeological finds, recovered by this special branch of the Carabinieri that is dedicated to preserving Italy’s cultural heritage.
As an International Baccalaureate World School, ‘international mindedness’, awareness and understanding of different cultures are at the heart of our school’s philosophy.
This public-private partnership shared common goals, offering a unique reflection on the traditional concept of education, exposing students and their families (representing 50 nationalities) to the complexity, diversity and excellence of Italian heritage and the need to preserve it to avoid damage, loss and theft.
Among the items on display: an Etruscan terracotta sarcophagus recovered in Geneva; vases decorated with mythological images including a large Apulian volute krater sequestered in Corsica. A specific installation was dedicated to a complete suit of armour, the restoration of which Rome International School has contributed to.
