Respect for the environment is a value that has increasingly become deeply embedded in school life. The school joined the Eco-Schools international network in 2016 and is committed to raising awareness of important environmental themes that engage the entire learning community.

 

The Eco Council at Rome International School

On Wednesday 2nd of December, Rome International School celebrated International Soil Day! Events involving the whole school were organised by the Eco Council. Activities included a non-uniform day were money was raised to create small garden plots on the terraces for classes to use. In addition students in Year 4 to Year 13 had an opportunity to take part in a virtual event with a global expert on Soil, Mr Ronald Vargas, from the Food and Agriculture Organisation.

Globeducate Festival of Sustainability - WWF Expert Panel

On Friday 16th October, RIS teachers and students had the opportunity to participate in a virtual 'Sustainability Festival' organised by Globeducate and WWF, during which they listened a panel of WWF experts explore key issues facing our planet, and the role we can play in our own lives, and through action as a school community, to shape a sustainable future.

The Middle and High Eco Council now has a dedicated website!

Middle and High School Eco Council students have created a website to showcase all of activities, future events and projects, in particular the outcomes of the global partnership with WWF.

These initiatives underwrite the UN Sustainable Development Goals and help to empower students to play their role in shaping the world.
