The Future of STEAM Education: The Space Lab
Special Inauguration Week Article Book a School Visit
Innovation takes centre stage at Rome International School with the official launch of the Space Lab - a cutting-edge hub for coding, robotics, AI, and beyond.
This exciting campus expansion was inaugurated during RIS STEAM Week (10–14 March) with a special keynote by Elpidoforos Anastasiou, a leading voice in STEAM education.
Our approach ensures that students don’t only learn about the future—they are empowered to shape it.
Space Lab & STEAM Week Highlights
- The Space Lab is an exciting expansion of our state-of-the-art campus, designed as an interactive hub to provide students across the school with hands-on experiences in science, technology, engineering, art and mathematics (STEAM).
- RIS STEAM Week exemplifies our dedication to providing a holistic education that prepares students to be global change-makers who shape the future.

Beyond RIS Podcast - STEAM Week Interview
Rome International School students are open-minded global citizens with a deep curiosity about the world. They are lifelong learners who think critically and engage thoughtfully with new knowledge. This commitment to critical thinking and global perspectives is reflected in the insightful interview conducted by our Year 12 IB students with Elpidoforos Anastasiou, who was on campus to inaugurate the RIS Space Lab.
The interview is part of Beyond RIS, our student-led podcast that explores global issues, innovation, and personal growth through meaningful conversations.
The energy, enthusiasm, and commitment from the RIS Rome team were truly inspiring. The inauguration of the Space Lab marks the beginning of a new era of exploration, discovery, and hands-on learning for students. A huge thank you to RIS Rome's leadership, educators, and students for their incredible participation. I'm looking forward to seeing how the Space Lab and STEAM initiatives continue to shape the future of education!" - Elpis Anastasiou
STEAM in Action - Hands-On Learning Experiences
Innovation takes center stage at RIS with the Space Lab. This exciting campus expansion is designed to provide students with immersive, hands-on experiences in science, technology, engineering, arts, and mathematics (STEAM) and was inaugurated during RIS STEAM Week (10–14 March) with special guests - Elpis Anastasiou, a pioneer in STEAM education, and Prof. Matteo Russo a professor in Robotics.
IB Geography students recently embarked on an innovative STEAM project that blends technology, data science, and urban planning to create a 3D-printed model of Rome. This large-scale representation, measuring 1.5m by 2m, utilizes Earth observation data to map the city's buildings, rivers, and key landmarks.
In Elementary School, LEGO® Education is already bringing STEAM to life! Through robotics, engineering, and coding, students develop teamwork, problem-solving, and innovation skills in a fun, interactive way—encouraging them to explore, experiment, and engineer solutions.
Last week, Year 2 students at RIS wrapped up their unit of inquiry on transport with an exciting STEAM project that combined art, technology, science, engineering, and mathematics.
