The Forest is Our Classroom
At Rome International School our Early Years and Elementary students are fortunate to have a natural woodland surrounding the campus and we make use of it every single day. By treating the woods as a natural extension of classrooms, we provide students with a living laboratory - a space to explore, discover, and grow beyond four walls.

Outdoor Education
From quiet reflection to active discovery, the forest is home to a variety of our daily activities:
- Reading Circles & Discussions: Finding focus and inspiration in the natural surroundings
- Hands-on Science: Observing nature and experimenting with elements e.g. water, sand and mud!
- Practical Math: Using the environment to solve problems and see patterns in the real world
- Tuff Tray Exploration: Building fine motor skills and creativity through sensory play with natural materials

The Impact of the Outdoors
Integrating the natural world into our curriculum is a priority because of the profound impact it has on our students' development.

When lessons move outside, we see a natural boost in student engagement as curiosity peaks in an open, stimulating environment. This setting deeply supports student well-being, offering a peaceful space that fosters emotional health and a calm mindset. Most importantly, it allows children to make meaningful, real-world connections, ensuring that their education is not just theoretical, but rooted in the world they see and touch every day.
Experience the Outdoors at Our Stay & Play Events
We invite you to come and explore all this and more together with your family at our Stay and Play events starting weekly from 28 April 2026. This is more than a school tour: this is a great opportunity to meet our students and staff and witness firsthand how our unique environment shapes the learning experience for our youngest students.
