R.I.S Scholarship Fund Programme
One of the goals of Rome International School, as stated in its mission statement, is “to provide a nurturing environment, in which children of all nationalities and faiths can explore and respect their own and each other’s cultural and religious heritage….” One way we are currently putting this goal into practise is by opening our doors to both non-Italian and Italian students, who, through their daily interaction, practice open-mindedness by enjoying and appreciating the diversity of cultures and values found at RIS.

To promote the growth of our International community and to give promising non-Italian students whose families lack sufficient financial resources, a chance to have a quality international education, the parents of students already enrolled at RIS and the school have decided to begin a new Scholarship Programme.

What is the Scholarship Programme?

As from the academic year 2010/2011, RIS will open its "Scholarship Fund" Programme initially funded by RIS and its families. Four scholarships will be granted: two for the Primary school and two for the Middle and High school.  As more donors and sponsors hopefully join in, more students will be able to benefit from the annual Scholarship. This Programme is a system of financial assistance which allows for total coverage of tuition fees. The scholarship may be renewed in subsequent school years, provided that the income and merit requirements are met.  It can also be revoked at any time if changes in these requirements occur.

Who can apply for a Scholarship?

Non-Italian families with a household income not exceeding 50,000 € per year, can apply for one child only, (who should also be a non-Italian citizen).

The following education and language criteria have to be met:
  • Nursery and transition

Children will be assessed via classroom meetings. Knowledge of English is not a requirement.
  • Grade 1 to Grade 6

English knowledge will be assessed by an entry test or interview. Academic performance grades not less than B (or the equivalent) in most subject areas in the previous two school years are required.
  • Grade 7 and above

English fluency will be assessed by an entry test and an interview and grades not less than B (or the equivalent) in most subjects areas in the previous two school years are required.

How do I apply?

All applicants must complete and return the Scholarship Application Form, together with all the supporting documents listed on the application form.

Who decides about my application?

The Scholarship Committee, made up of 2 parents and 2 teacher representatives and chaired by the school director, will meet to consider applications for the Scholarships. In defining their decision, they will look closely at all applications in order to ensure that they meet the criteria listed above and a strict policy of confidentiality will be observed.  Finally, by June 24th, the Scholarship Committee will inform the parents if their child has been granted the Scholarship and a list of ranking of all applicants will be available in the school secretary’s office for information.

When should I apply?

All applications must be submitted to the school secretary’s office no later than 31st May, 2010.
