An education that prepares students for life. A message from the Headteacher Dear Parents, Students and Staff,
Another eventful week at school has passed and I can't help but reflect on how the current times, although challenging, have made us appreciate the many events that, under "normal" circumstances, would be taking place in this period. From residential trips in Italy and abroad to the wonderful May Fair, traditionally organised by the PTA, these activities that we have had to put-on hold, are crucial to enriching our students' experiences and we very much hope to be able to resume them next year.
Despite this, our students continue to impress me with their creativity and ability to adapt, with their compassion towards one-another, and their curiosity in learning about the world around them.
This Saturday will be a very special one for our community: we bid farewell to our graduates in Year 13. This pivotal moment in their lives represents the culmination of their journey through our school, in some cases all the way from the Early Years through to Year 13!
All of us here at Rome International School want to congratulate the Class of 2021 on their achievements, and we wish them the very best of luck for the future. I look forward to sharing the event highlights with you in future editions.I wish you all an enjoyable weekend.

Year 4Y practice their powers of persuasion Recently, I asked the children what they would choose to write about if they could persuade others to change their thinking and behaviour. They had lots of ideas and were eager to begin! We used the writing process to develop our drafts, researching for more information to support our arguments when necessary, and remembering how to revise and edit to create the most persuasive pieces we could. Some chose to write about how to stay safe in the pandemic, others chose to focus on respecting others' learning at school, and some focused on sustainability and respecting the environment - our current Sharing the Planet unit of inquiry. I hope you enjoy reading our finished pieces. Mr Young IAL: Acting in Year 3
Ms Pallavicino MHS WEEK 1 TIMETABLE - 24 to 28 MAY 2021 A message from the Principal Dear RIS community,
Another busy week for MHS students has passed and we continue head-on towards the end of the academic year.
Students in all years are busy preparing for their end of year examinations. Whilst these are important, they are certainly not the 'be all and end all'. It worries me that our younger students in particular are becoming so worried and preoccupied about 'failing' these exams. Please be reminded that these exams should only confirm what our teachers and students already know. There should be no real surprises. Please do contact us if you have personal issues relating specifically to stress and stress management. We have a team of skilled and professional colleagues that are able to help counsel students who are feeling particularly stressed or overwhelmed.
Our older students have reached the mid point of their IBDP taster experience and I have been very impressed with their approach and general conduct during the first week. Whilst I still have significant concerns over a small group of students who insist on wearing what they would like to school (in place of official school uniform) I sincerely hope that their hard work and mature approach towards these lessons and seminars continue through next week. I would like to thank all the teachers who have worked so hard to put on high-quality lessons for our students this week (and next) to give them a real idea of what life could be like for these students next year.
Finally, we are looking forward to our Year 13 graduation which is being held this weekend. I look forward to sharing news and images from this event with you all next week. Have a wonderful weekend.

Year 10 Debate
This week Year 10 honed their communication skills by preparing for and taking part in a class debate. We had two teams arguing for and against the Death Penalty and Euphanasia.
Debating allows students to sharpen their critical thinking and enhances their ability to structure and organise thoughts.Taking part in a debate also enhances learners' analytical, research and note-taking skills and improves their ability to form balanced, informed arguments. Year 10 commented that they 'enjoyed the chance to voice their opinions and argue with their peers'. Ms Loughery A message from the IB Coordinator
Dear all,
What a busy week it has been! Preparations for the Leaving Ceremony of our Year 13 students are in full swing and we are all looking forward to congratulating them! The Year 12s have received their End of Year Exam timetable which can be accessed here. During the week of June 7 - 11, the Year 12 students can come and leave according to their exams times but MUST attend in school uniform. The Y11s are done with the first week of the IB taster experience which went really well and we can see that it fulfilled its purpose. Despite just having a glimpse into the window of the IB program, students have in fact received a lot of insight. So I have heard feedback on having an idea of the core as well as, something like, 'I don't think this subject is for me, I got lost during the presentation' and many more comments demonstrating the success of the taster experience. Wishing you all the best for the second week!

Year 7 are thankful!
Year 7 are currently studying the novel 'The Outsiders' and as part of their analysis of the main character, they have been identifying how, as he progresses through the book, he becomes more aware and more thankful for certain aspects of his life. Therefore 7B spent a couple of lessons this week considering what they are thankful for in their lives. Ms Bell |
