An education that allows open-mindedness to develop and flourish, from Nursery to High School A message from the Headteacher Dear Parents, Students and Staff,
We are very fortunate to be located in such a beautiful and green location, and with the warmer weather our students have been making full use of all the space we have. Our Outdoor Classroom is being visited by a steady flow of students where structured and meaningful learning takes place under the guidance provided by their teachers. I also had a very promising meeting with our Eco Council leaders who presented a 'Greenhouse Project' that would involve using some of our terraces to create a roof garden, which would be cared for by our students. All of this in the middle of the natural parkland of Monte Mario!

Summer Camp 2021 Year 1 Pandas continue science inquiry
This week we are continuing our exploration of plants: what they need and their importance in people's lives. We have spent our time making inquiries about what bean plants need to grow and making changes to their environment as we noticed they needed more space, soil, water and sunlight to thrive. Migration Simulation in Year 5!
This week Year 5 was surprised to find their classrooms blocked off as a 'Danger Zone' upon returning from play time. Using their problem solving skills, they decided to take their learning outside. Finally, they realised this was all a simulation to introduce them to our new unit: Human Migration! A virtual tour of Transition's Art exhibition!
Transition children have been inquiring into how Animals and people interact in different ways, in different contexts. The children produced some wonderful paintings, which illustrate the lines of inquiry that we have been looking at: the characteristics of animals and their needs, the different role animals play in people's lives and our responsibility for the well-being of animals. Here is a video of the art exhibition of Transition's work. Very well done! MHS WEEK 2 TIMETABLE - 3 TO 7 MAY 2021 A message from the Principal Dear RIS Community,
Another week has passed and we are now heading towards the sharp end of the academic year.
Our older students are completing their final touches to any outstanding portfolio work and are ready for their end of year examinations that start next week. Plans are in place for a fully staffed study room for students who are not able to leave school after their exams and we we hope that this will serve those who need it. We do not anticipate this will be used by all, but have responded to requests made by students and parents. Year 11 parents and students also received information yesterday about the two-week IBDP taster experience. This experience, running between the 17th to 28th of May, will provide a range of experiences and information sessions all aimed at helping students decide if the IBDP is for them. During the two weeks, all students will be exposed to a range of lectures and seminars as well as trying all subjects at IBDP level. They will also learn more about the core components of the IB Diploma - the Extended Essay, CAS, Theory of Knowledge - all of which set this programme of study apart from other courses. Please note that all sessions are compulsory and attendance at school is not optional.

Year 8 learn equations of a straight
Students in Year 8A mathematics have been learning how to draw straight line graphs on a coordinate grid. They know how to do this by producing a table of values for the x and y coordinates. They have now developed their understanding by using equations of the form y = mx + c. They know that the letter m gives the slope or gradient of the line, whilst the letter c gives the point where the graph cuts the y axis. In class they were asked to match pictures of graphs with the correct equations. Ms Wilson Year 12 Italian B students impress with poetry project
"The Rival", written by the famous American poet and novelist Sylvia Plath inspired a collaborative creative writing activity whereby the Year 12 Italian B Higher Level students composed pieces of writing in Italian, which was then acted out by the Standard Level students, under the guidance of each author/director. 'Change your words, change your Life' - Year 8 Practise the Art of Rhetoric
This week Year 8 have been preparing and delivering persuasive speeches in English language class. Inspired by Earth week, students had to research a topic related to environmentalism and then prepare and perform a speech to their peers, informing them about the most pressing issues of our time and convincing them to take action. Miss Bell Lifelong skills: Year 7 Map competition update
Back in January students completed their Year 7 units on maps by entering their own hand-drawn maps into a competition, with the chance of their maps being published in next year's student diaries. The idea behind this is for current students to help future students with what they have learned! This task also helps students to practise scale and spatial awareness, two skills for the future.
After some great entries and a difficult decision, I am pleased to announce the winner as Jerzy P. from 7A! I look forward to running this competition in future years to help new students and for current students to have a lasting legacy. Mr Conway |
