MHS Parent-Teacher conferences, Making learning personal in 4Y & more! A message from the Headteacher The first days of September seem a long way away now, and I think you will agree that it has been a rather unique first half-term. We have all experienced it in different ways, and by sharing these different experiences and emotions we have also, in many ways, become closer. The half-term break now lies before us, and it is a time for reflecting on what has been, and how we can best embrace the second half-term. We should also remember that each and every one of us has an individual responsibility to safeguard our community, whether we are physically in school, at home or on our travels. Thank you for all the support you have given us over the past two months, and please do have a relaxing, and above all safe, half-term break. Mr Thompson, Headteacher Photos of the week:
On Friday 23rd October, Early Years and Elementary students had the opportunity to come to school dressed (responsibly!) in their favourite ghoulish costume. We just love this photo of Ms Braghetta as a Wicked Witch and Mr Bernieri as a scary Black Cat!
Our second photo of the week shows Ms Chidsey's Year 1 class enjoying Halloween storytime in the garden, complete with handmade cushions! Dates for your Diary

This week, Transition class enjoyed reading this story and looking at the language we use to describe the giant and compared him with Jack. The children have also enjoyed constructing a cave and having a cauldron with herbs to make their spells. See the photos below of us building our Halloween cave and mixing magic potions! Making learning personal in 4Y An important part of the learning that happens in the 4Y classroom is dedicated to the children's questions, ideas, interests and talents. It is a way for me to learn about them in a more personal way, and capitalise on the knowledge and skills they already possess to inform my planning and assessment, and to help them develop what it takes to become a lifelong learner: to be able to plan, execute and assess their own learning. This can happen in all areas of the curriculum, from language and maths inquiries to viewing and creating visual art, but it is easier to learn more about each individual child whilst they work on their personal projects for a few hours each week. Isabelle had kindly offered to tell you more about it. A message from the Middle & High Principal Dear RIS community,
What a busy and eventful first half term we've had. I would like to send you all into the break with a message of thanks. Thank you for being so supportive of us. Thank you for listening and for providing suggestions and ideas to help improve our school.

Update from the IGCSE Coordinator, Ms Hetzer
Now that we have been through the first half term our Year 10 students have adjusted to the high demands of the IGCSE courses. They have started to realise it is hard work but doable. They have had a Leadership training that has equipped them with skills they will find useful for the rest of their lives. Year 8 English: Learn how to apply knowledge
Over the past few weeks in English, we have been reading the award-winning book, 'The Other Side of Truth' by Beverly Naidoo. It is a powerful book about racism and freedom told through the eyes of a child. This week in Year 8 Chinese with Ms Parnanzone
Although Halloween is not a traditional Chinese festivity, it is becoming more and more popular in Asia too. In our Chinese course we love to work on new projects from time to time, therefore we decided to create a giant pumpkin to decorate our classroom and celebrate Halloween in our own way. 万圣节快乐!
