Welcome from the Principal
Dear RIS community,
It's my absolute pleasure to welcome you all to the start of an exciting new academic year. After the difficult events of last year, September 2020 has begun with excitement and real pace. It's wonderful to have our students in and around school and I am delighted to sit here as the new Principal of Middle and High school. I look forward to seeing and meeting you during the course of the next few weeks, so please do stop me and introduce yourselves, should you get the chance.
I am delighted to report that the school year for MHS students has got off to a tremendous start. It was wonderful to welcome back all our students last week and they have quickly settled into their 'new normal' routines for the year. Children have generally been very mature and sensible. They are doing their best to maintain the social distancing requirements and staff are working hard to constantly reinforce this message. After such a long away from school it's only natural for children to be excited to see their friends, but we are being very firm when students forget or need reminding. Please continue to reinforce this message at home. Mr Mongare is originally from Somerset in England and joins us from Malaysia, where he was the Principal at an IB World School. With over 15 years experience leading international schools around the world, we are lucky to have him at RIS! En-garde! Fencing lessons begin with Champions from the prestigious Accademia D'Armi Musumeci Greco 1878
Thanks to the school's partnership with the historic Accademia D'Armi Musumeci Greco 1878,some of our students have already had great fun during the curricular Fencing lessons, taught in complete safety by national Champions from the Academy! Year 6 has been enjoying the possibility of learning in the fresh air in our outdoor classroom. They loved exploring and reminiscing of past adventures with their friends and teachers of yesteryear. They took a choice of work with them. Activities included self portraits, quiet reading and non fiction writing. They loved it! Mr Baldoni (Year 7), Ms Hetzer (Year 10) and Ms El Sheikh (Year 12) look forward to seeing you online next week! The school will provide a copy of the information shared with parents in these classes, after the meetings. Welcome from the IGCSE Coordinator, Ms Hetzer
"My role is to guarantee a smooth transition from Middle School to High School; to make sure that the two-year IGCSE course in each subject runs according to the expectations of the school and leads to a successful examination period at the end of Year 11. Among other duties, I will be helping students in Year 9 to choose subjects for their IGCSE courses and coordinating the subject teachers about the Cambridge International Examinations (CIE) syllabi. My aim is to contribute with all of my knowledge and experience to our students' overall success in the first two years of their High School education." Welcome from the IB DP Coordinator, Ms El Sheikh
"Despite the masks one can see and feel the happiness of everyone to be back in school. It is such a pleasure to have my students physically back in the classrooms and teach them in a more personal manner. This is a very busy and exciting time for all IB students. The Y12 are still sorting out their subject choices and are cautiously looking forward to what kind of opportunities and challenges the IB will bring into their lives. The Y13 are already realising the time pressure of this year but at the same time happily looking into university admissions. I am delighted to accompany all of them and wish everyone a successful school year; above all, stay safe!"
Creative writing contribution from Ms Bell's Year 7 English class Murder in Room 303!
This week at RIS school a very strange thing happened. A MURDER!? Yes guys you are right a murder. It happened in the third floor room 303. The incident was noticed by a student that was arriving first in class,he saw a dead body in the middle of the room. That dead body seemed to be the Principal and the student, he shouted, and dropped his pencil case and ran all around the school for help and he found the English teacher that (very strangely) wasn't too scared. But she still called the CSI to investigate. Continue reading this story written by Giovanni in Year 7B ⇒ |
