Meet Some of The New Staff to Join RIS This Term

I am Spanish and have been a teacher of Spanish for 12 years, 11 of them i n Valencia and one in London. I have also had other responsibilities in these schools such as Head of Year and form tutor. I am now Middle School Leader at Rome International School and I am looking forward to enjoying a very successful academic year. I would like to stress that our objective as a school is to provide your son/daughter with a secure and pleasant learning atmosphere, where pupils can develop their academic potential at the best of their abilities. Middle School students are naturally motivated and we find in their enthusiasm a spark of inspiration for our own work. Finally I would like to express how much we appreciate parental support at home and invite you to contact us if there is anything we can help with.

I am very excited to be involved in Rome International School at this point in its development. Rome is an amazing city and feels like a place that will be very inspiring to work in. I have been involved in education for 20 years and been teaching internationally for 16. Being in international teaching requires one to be flexible and I have taught in a variety of subject areas . However, my specialism is teaching Visual Art mainly to DP students and TOK which I enjoy a great deal. I have also been DP coordinator in my previous school in Qatar and have worked closely with year 13 students on university entrance and pastoral issues. Here I will be GCSE coordinator and I look forward to the challenges this will bring. I am keen to help students design the most suitable packages and I will have a chance to get to know students in 10 and 11 when I have them for Art each week. I will also coordinate Theory of Knowledge and be the tutor of grade 13 - a role I enjoy very much. There are many goals to be realised but I trust that the year ahead will be positive and successful for the whole school community.
Elementary School IBO Workshop
Before the school opened its doors to the our students, on the 1st and 2nd of September all Elementary School staff attended a IBO Workshop on Inquiry. Teachers were able to deepen their understanding of Inquiry by going through the process themselves. They took part in a series of hands-on activities that generated questions and wonderings. They worked in groups to discuss ideas, looked at Inquiry from the perspective of the different subject areas, reflected on their practice and set goals for the coming academic year. High level thinking and debates made the experienced IB workshop leader Karin Bacon label the teachers as A good group to work with!
IB Diploma Programme at RIS
At the end of this year our second Diploma Programme Cohort will be sitting their final exams, and a few days ago a fresh cohort began in grade 12.
We are very proud of our May results, and we strive to make this year another challenging and enjoyable experience for our DP students, which will lead to many successes in their future studies and career.
In line with the IB philosophy and recommendations, we will endeavorer to provide all the support and practical assistance that we can to help both teachers and students achieve their full potential on the Diploma Programme.
Our DP Teachers will, of course, continue being encouraged and supported in their professional development (attending DP workshops, making systematic use of official IB resources, etc). Our DP students can rely on a sound pastoral and academic structure, which, we hope, will always make them feel welcome at school while encouraging independent thinking and a proactive attitude to academic work. The grade 13 students will continue to be offered guidance and practical assistance in the University application process, a very important step in their emotional and intellectual lives.
We are pleased to announce that we now offer French ab initio as an option among the group 2 subjects. This is in line with our attempt to continue making academic progress and to diversify our curricular offer.
